Asbestos is the main culprit behind the dangerous type of cancer, mesothelioma. Majority of the mesothelioma cases reported have a background history of exposure to asbestos behind them. Then also, cases have been reported rarely of this cancer where there was no involvement of asbestos particles. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral which can be separated into fine threads. It is widely used in industries like manufacturing cement, brake linings, roof shingles, flooring products, textiles and insulation. Many hapless workers have become victims of asbestos mesothelioma due to the wide usage of the mineral.
During the process of manufacturing, these asbestos particles get scattered in the air. Serious health hazards take place in the workers when they inhale or swallow them unknowingly. It is also found that asbestos exposure coupled with smoking increases the risk of getting affected by the cancer. There have been millions of American workers who have been exposed to the material since early’40s. The workers include those who are in the asbestos mines and mills, shipyard industry, heating and construction industries etc. Read more...

Several factors are responsible for deciding the success and failure of mesothelioma treatment. They include the area of infection, the stage of infection, the level of contamination, the mental as well as physical health of the affected person, his age, the nature of affected cells etc. Before starting the treatment process the patient has to be well informed about the treatment process well in advance.
There are three traditional mesothelioma treatments which are popular. They are radiation, surgery and medication. High energy x-rays or some other energy rays are used in radiation to destroy the malevolent cancer cells. Attempts to remove the cancer cells altogether are done through surgery and powerful drugs are utilized in chemotherapy. According to the discretion of the doctors, a combination of two or three of these methods is also used.
Blood tests are not highly successful in analyzing the kind of cancer, whereas procedures like thorascocopy, video assisted thoracic surgery, mediastinoscopy and laproscopy are used to identify the problem. The actual mesothelioma treatment will begin after proper diagnosis. Read more...

Litigations are tricky affairs. More so are mesothelioma litigations. Some very cardinal reasons very often result in mesothelioma lawsuits losing out. Let us examine why and how such lawsuits fail and what should be done to counter them.
Mesothelioma cancer is an infection resulting from asbestos inhalation many years ago. It may take even fifty years for the cancer to assume alarming proportions and become noticeable. Another factor is that most the victims diagnosed of the disease recently got infected at a period when there were no laws existing regarding asbestos use. Preventive measures were not to be heard of. Also, the number of mesothelioma experts with the required experience is very less.
These factors combine to make mesothelioma lawsuits full of loopholes. Naturally, the profit motivated people would try to evade the law for not wanting to part with money. Hence the lawyer and the patient should sit together and plan things before filing such a lawsuit. Most important of all, the plaintiff should inform his lawyer about all the details regarding the infection. It is always better not to hide anything from your lawyer. All documentary evidence concerning health and work history needs to be given to the lawyer to prepare a case without any loopholes. Read more...

Malignant pleural mesothelioma affects the pleural mesothelium, a protective lining around the lungs and accounts for more than two-thirds of the three thousand mesothelioma cases reported in the United States alone every year. The pleura, which is constructed with two layers, supports and protects the lung cavity. The outer stratum protects the diaphragm while the inner layer, the visceral layer, covers the lungs. Pleural mesothelioma mostly infects only one of these layers at the starting stages and sometimes spreads to the other layer also. The disease occurs to people who had inhaled asbestos filled air for continuous periods. The particles, after getting into the body, get trapped in the space between the mesothelium cells and retard their functioning.
The trapped asbestos particles trigger some chemical reactions resulting in the mesothelium cells to divide in an abnormal manner. This results in the pleural layers thickening and cause a certain fluid build up, called the pleural effusion. The excess fluid compresses the lungs and hinders easy breathing. Persistent dry cough, blood emission while coughing, difficulties with swallowing, breath shortness, unnatural weight loss, fatigue, lump formation around the chest etc are the most visible symptoms of mesothelioma attack. We all know that taking a single glance at a person’s facebook profile is sure to tell us quite a bit, possibly too much, about their lives- relationship status, hair color, favorite movie, bra color? Women have taken the fight against breast cancer to a fresh and trendy level by simply posting the color of the bra they are wearing on their facebook statuses. It has been creating some controversy, but as the old saying goes, there is no such thing as bad press.
According to the Washington Post, a message was sent to women all over the world advertising this event. The message read “Some fun is going on . . . just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of breast cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before people wonder why all the girls have a color in their status Haha.” Read more...

Numerous statistical figures have quoted that the impact of constipation to be as low as 2% to as high as 30%. A large recent 2006 survey conducted by the famous pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim pinpoints the number to be at 12% worldwide. Even at 2% though, most people would agree that constipation seems to be a problem afflicting a broad segment of the population.
One explanation for why the statistics are so inconsistent is that constipation has historically been a poorly-defined condition. The poor definitions are due the fact that constipation varies quite a bit between patients. Frequency of bowel movements, time spent straining at the toilet and hardness of feces are but three examples of patient-reported symptoms that vary wildly from person-to-person. Some attempt has been made by both U.S. national agencies and private groups (such as the Rome Foundation) in unifying our definition of constipation. Nevertheless, diagnosis is made difficult by such variations. Read more...
